Joel Dommett at Northern Stage – A Comedy Masterclass from One of the UK’s Best

If there’s one thing Joel Dommett knows how to do, it’s keep an audience hooked. Whether he’s presenting The Masked Singer, hosting the National Television Awards, or fronting his hit podcast Never Have I Ever, he’s built a career on charm, quick wit, and infectious energy. But with his latest stand-up tour, Joel strips back the flashy TV sets and high-stakes guessing games, returning to what he does best—making people laugh with just a microphone and a stage.

Northern Stage: The Perfect Venue for a Personal Show

Before we even get to Joel, let’s talk about Northern Stage in Newcastle—a fantastic venue that perfectly suits his style. Intimate yet spacious, it creates the ideal balance: big enough for a buzzing atmosphere, but small enough to feel like every single person is in on the joke. And with the show completely sold out, the energy in the room was electric from the start.

Joel’s entrance was met with raucous applause, and from the first moment, he had the crowd in the palm of his hand. His set was a whirlwind of fast-paced, self-deprecating, and brilliantly observational comedy, packed with stories that felt both completely absurd and 100% relatable.

From Showbiz Glamour to First-Time Fatherhood

What makes Joel such a great stand-up is his ability to blend hilarious anecdotes from his TV career with the everyday chaos of normal life. One minute, he’s giving us an insight into the madness of hosting a primetime show like The Masked Singer, and the next, he’s sharing the less-than-glamorous reality of becoming a dad.

His new material leans into fatherhood, and it’s pure gold. From the moment his son was born to trying breast milk his stories had the audience howling—not just because they were funny, but because they were so honest and relatable. Joel doesn’t pretend to have it all figured out. Instead, he leans into the fact that he’s completely winging it, and that’s what makes it so brilliant.

There was still plenty of classic Joel energy—big, physical comedy moments, perfectly delivered one-liners, and the kind of self-inflicted embarrassment that only he can turn into a 10-minute routine.

Effortless Charisma & A Night of Pure Joy

Joel’s stage presence is effortless—he’s like a mate who’s just come back from the most ridiculous holiday and can’t wait to tell you every bizarre detail. His natural storytelling and ability to react to the audience in the moment make every show feel fresh, even though he’s been performing night after night.

By the time the set wrapped up, the audience didn’t want it to end. The applause was huge, and the standing ovation was more than deserved.

The Verdict: Unmissable

If you’re a fan of Joel on TV, you’ll love him even more in person. This show is funny, fast-paced, and full of heart, proving that while he’s a fantastic presenter, stand-up is where he truly shines. With UK dates selling out fast, plus stops in Southend, Nottingham, Leeds, Norwich, and beyond, there’s still time to grab a ticket—but don’t wait too long, because this tour is a hit.

5/5 – A flawless night of comedy from one of the UK’s best.
